PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Residents,

Our Webmaster has graciously established our online newsletter which we believe will keep you up-to-date on activities in the neighborhood.

We are getting positive feedback and have been able to focus County resources on some of our problems even with the budget cuts...things still move, but slower.

As the year end approachs the Cove HOA Board wishes you and your family a Happy Holiday Season and hopes you all get some rest and relaxation. My personal best wishes go out to all our volunteers who have so generously donated their time and energy to the betterment of folks in The Cove.

Sincerely,
Dave Slack
GUEST SPEAKER- RYAN STIMPERT

Our goal is to reduce the number of child sexual abuse victims through education and awareness.

In light of the 16 child sexual abuse cases that have occurred in the Tampa Bay, Manatee and Sarasota areas, Ryan will be speaking at our December meeting.

RECYCLE CHALLENGE

Now, it's even easier to recycle in Hillsborough County!

Hillsborough County is challenging all residents of The Cove to recycle more! They've issued a goal of increasing recycling by 10 percent. And, they're partnering with a national organization, The Curbside Value Partnership (www.RecycleCurbside.org) to make it happen. Their successes will be shared nationally as a best practice.

So, let's help!

You can start today by recycling more and by putting your recycling bins out every week filled to the brim. Admit it, you don't recycle everything. Well, now you have added motivation!

Don't have a recycling bin? Or, need a new one? No problem. Go to the County's new recycling Web site, www.HillsboroughRecycles.org, to request yours today. You can do it all online, so what are you waiting for?

DID YOU KNOW?

If we recycled just 10 percent more in Hillsborough County this year we could:
  • Offset enough to water the average lawn 917,000 times
  • Run one television for 140 million hours
  • Take 11,000 dump trucks off Hillsborough County's roads

Last year, County residents saved over 345,800 trees by recycling 20,344 tons of paper.  How cool is that?

Once an aluminum can is recycled, it can be part of a new can within six weeks.

RECYCLING FACTS

  • During the time it takes you to read this sentence, 50,000 12-ounce aluminum cans are made.
  • Last year Hillsborough County residents recycled enough aluminum cans to offset the use of almost 2 million gallons of gasoline. That's enough gas to fill the average car more than 124,000 times!
  • Recycling 5 lbs of paper will conserve enough water to "offset" the water used in a typical shower.
  • Last year, Hillsborough County recycled over 20,344 tons of paper. By recycling this much paper, we saved 142.4 million gallons of water. That's enough water to fill almost 6,000 swimming pools! How's that for getting your feet wet?
  • The US population discards each year 16 BILLION diapers, 1.6 BILLION pens, 2 BILLION razor blades, 220 MILLION car tires, and enough aluminum to rebuild the US commercial air fleet four times over.
  • Last year, Hillsborough County residents recycled enough materials to save 91,000 cubic yards of landfill space.
